About Us:
Welcome to Afrimax Uganda Ltd.  We are a newly launched ISP offering quality 4G wireless broadband Internet services to companies and households in Kampala. In future we will extend our network and service to other parts of the country.

We are part of the larger Afrimax Group with ISP operations in other African countries.

Job Overview:
The Radio Technician will conduct preventative and remedial maintenance on all sites in our network and play a key role in keeping it running in top condition; our goal is to resolve any problems before a customer notices an effect. As a 24X7 operation, the Radio Technician will need to respond to troubles outside the normal hours of business. The Radio Technician will also be involved in site acquisition, site development and site installations for the expansion of our network.

Job Main Requirements:

  •     Mid Career (2-5 years of radio field experience ideal)
  •     Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Engineering, or relevant experience
  •     Telecom network training and experience
  •     Good understanding of change management, configuration management & fault management
  •     Willingness to work on call out, at any time of the day or week (nights, early mornings, weekends)
  •     Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  •     Knowledge of radio base station equipment, baseband, remote radio heads, antennas
  •     Basic knowledge of IP
  •     Basic understanding of network monitoring concepts and management tools
  •     Knowledge of grounding techniques and lightning protection
  •     Able to collate and interpret data from various sources
  •     Ability to assess faults, prioritise, respond and escalate accordingly
  •     Capable of multi-tasking, time management and prioritisation of workload
  •     Work as a team with NOC personnel
  •     Driver’s license with good driving record
  •     Good written and oral English language skills

Desirable Requirements:
  •     Strong work ethic and ‘can-do’ attitude
  •     Fast learner, flexible, hardworking and dynamic person
  •     Customer oriented
  •     Good knowledge of other wireless telecom elements (i.e. LTE, radio base stations, back up generators, -48vdc power systems, fibre line testing RF line testing, security systems, NOC operations, fibre network operations etc.)
  •     Tower climbing safety certification
  •     Personal vehicle

Job Duties:
  •     Technical operation of the system’s radio base stations and associated hardware and software
  •     Site acquisition support
  •     Preparing sites for installation of equipment
  •     Keeping power systems at all sites, including rectifiers and batteries, running in top condition
  •     Security of the system, both physically and electronically
  •     Remedial maintenance, normal and out of hours
  •     Preventive maintenance
  •     Travel to sites throughout the coverage area
  •     Set up and installation of outdoor customer premise equipment (CPE)
  •     Supporting Customer Services
  •     Preventative and remedial maintenance on all baseband and radio frequency units
  •     Testing and repairing site fibre lines and power connections
  •     Working with NOC to test and resolve technical troubles
  •     Work with back haul service to test and resolve technical troubles
  •     Ensure compliance with legal regulations and license parameters on all radio emitting equipment
  •     Provide reports on system performance as and when requested
  •     Maintain good relations with all site owners; follow their access requirements and site rules
  •     Ensure site owners meet their obligations to Afrimax regarding security and generator power
  •     Provide back up support and cover for the NOC Technicians
  •     Other ad hoc tasks as and when assigned
