Welcome to Afrimax Uganda Ltd.  We are a newly launched ISP offering quality 4G wireless broadband Internet services to companies and households in Kampala. In future we will extend our network and service to other parts of the country.

We are part of the larger Afrimax Group with ISP operations in other African countries.

Job Overview:
The NOC Technician will monitor the health of the Afrimax 4G TD-LTE network and play a key role in keeping it running in top condition.  The NOC Technician is the first line of defence against network incidents and faults that may cause service degradation to our customers; our goal is to resolve any problems before a customer notices an effect.  As a 24X7 operation, NOC Technicians will need to work shifts outside the normal hours of the business (including holidays and weekends).

Job Major Requirements:

  •     Early career (1-2 years of NOC operations experience ideal)
  •     Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Engineering, or relevant experience
  •     Telecom network training and experience
  •     Good understanding of change management, configuration management & fault management
  •     Willingness to work any shift, at any time of the day or week (nights, early mornings, weekends)
  •     Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  •     Basic knowledge of the OSI model, switching and Internet routing technologies (to junior network administrator level)
  •     Knowledge of Linux kernel, command line and system diagnostics (to Junior Sys Admin level)
  •     Basic understanding of network monitoring concepts and management tools
  •     Exposure to scripting basics
  •     Able to collate and interpret data from various sources
  •     Ability to assess faults, prioritise, respond and escalate accordingly
  •     Capable of multi-tasking, time management and prioritisation of workload
  •     Work as a team with field personnel
  •     Good written and oral English language skills
  •     Other tasks as assigned

Desirable Requirements:
  •     Strong work ethic and ‘can-do’ attitude
  •     Fast learner, flexible, hardworking and dynamic person
  •     Customer oriented
  •     Good knowledge of other telecom elements (i.e. Packet Core, IVR, VoIP, radio base stations, fibre network operations etc.) and protocols (i.e. Diameter, SS7, SIGTRAN, VoIP, ISUP, MAP, TCAP, INAP and CAMEL)

Job Duties:
  •     Monitoring the network, including all sub-systems in accordance with established procedures, escalating faults as required
  •     Optimising the network configuration to meet ongoing conditions
  •     Co-operate with and help direct field staff in trouble remediation and project development in a timely manner
  •     Diligently update network software in accordance with prescribed plans and required timelines
  •     Utilising network management tools to produce accurate and timely reports on network performance and traffic
  •     Undertake other tasks as assigned by the NOC Supervisor as required and to agreed standards
  •     When necessary execute disaster recovery plan (backup, restores) in compliance with company standards and procedures
  •     Keep Customer Service and management apprised of major network issues at all times
