About AKF:
Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) is a private, not-for-profit, non- denominational international development agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN). AKF works in collaboration with partners to develop and promote innovative solutions that help improve the quality of life of communities in areas we work. This is achieved through a Multi-Input Area Development programming approach that responds to the opportunities and priorities of a given area with long-term and synergised interventions. Specifically in Uganda, AKF currently supports programming in education, early childhood development (ECD) and strengthening civil society.

About Project:
AKF will commence a two-and-a-half year civil society strengthening project in West Nile, Uganda, in April 2014. The project aims to improve the status of girls’ education in the West Nile sub-region, through strengthened capacities of education-centric CSOs to mainstream gender in internal operations and education interventions. The project will be implemented in Arua, Koboko and Yumbe districts. These districts have been chosen in order to enhance the outcomes of AKF’s existing education and ECD programmes in West Nile, which aim to strengthen teacher education and support systems to improve and sustain learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy for boys and girls in primary and pre-primary school levels. To complement these education outcomes, advanced and intensive support will he provided via the strengthening civil society project to a broad range of education-centric CSOs to generate a critical mass of support for addressing the gender issues that impact girls’ education in West Nile.

Job Overview:

The Manager Training & Quality Assurance is to support the design and management of RUFORUM training and education offered by RUFORUM.

Job Requirements:

  •     The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, gender, international development or a similar field.
  •     At least two years’ relevant experience of strengthening the capacity of organisations on gender mainstreaming, gender analysis and planning, and gender centric mobilisation essential; with a particular focus on girls' education preferred.
  •     Two or more years’ relevant experience in delivering civil society capacity development programmes, with specific experience working with education-centric CSOs preferred.
  •     Past experience developing the capacity of organisation staff/members through a TOT model and providing support to deliver cascaded capacity building.
  •     Significant exposure and experience developing tailored gender analysis tools and training stakeholders on their implementation preferred.
  •     Experience managing sub-grantee relationships.
  •     Experience mobilising stakeholders to conduct analysis, plan, disseminate documented findings and engage in policy dialogue.
  •     Prior experience and expertise of working with stakeholders (government, civil society, communities) at multiple levels and leading participatory development (at grass-root and institutional levels) is essential.
  •     Experience and knowledge of working in West Nile Uganda, with familiarity of at least one language and cultures (Lugbara.Kakwa or Aringa) preferred.
  •     Past exposure and experience of working in multi-cultural and diverse teams.

Job Duties:
  •     Work with other programme staff and external consultants to develop programme and capacity building tools for schools and develop the capacity of CSOs to utilise and disseminate the respective tools.
  •     Work with AKF’s programme teams and partners to support CSOs to conduct gender equality-related trainings, undertake gender equality assessments and develop gender responsive plans and tools.
  •     Technically support CSOs to improve interfacing and cross-learning between CSOs, government            and school authorities.
  •     Assist the SCS Programme Coordinator to develop and design plans to meet programming needs.
  •     Support the completion of proposals, budgets and high quality analytical reports.
  •     Support monitoring and evaluation of the project.
  •     Lend a hand in the coordination and integration with other AKF programmes.
  •     Work closely with SCS Programme Coordinator to ensure programme quality, the documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, and responsive programme design.
  •     Assist the SCS Programme Coordinator to broker and manage partnerships with project stakeholders.
  •     Support AKF in external communications, policy engagement and resource mobilization
  •     Perform any other duties as assigned by the Strengthening Civil Society Programme Coordinator.
