Qualifications and Experience:
Education:  Completion of elementary school is required; secondary and related trade school or specialized vehicles repair and maintenance trainings are highly desired.
Prior Work Experience:  At least three years of professional chauffeur experience and a valid local driver's license for following types of vehicles is highly preferred.  Classes:  B  (Motor cars), C (medium commercial), DL (light omnibus), DM (medium omnibus)
Language Proficiency:  Ability to speak, read , and write in English (Level III) is required.
Knowledge and ability:  Must be familiar with local traffic laws and area traffic patterns is required; knowledge and prior work experience with electronic recordkeeping (computer usage) is also highly desired. • Duties required the ability to deal with officials and occasionally VIPs in a relaxed but competent and professional manner.
Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of staff, business people, property owners and PC Volunteers.
Demonstrated experience of cross-cultural communication skills is highly desired.
Ability to work a regular Monday through Friday schedule with evening and weekend hours and travel to countryside as may be needed.



Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Driving:  Contractor will operate official Peace Corps Vehicles to transport passengers and cargo to appointments, meetings, and Volunteer sites throughout Uganda.
Will be often assigned to provide driver support to pre-service and in-service trainings of Peace Corps volunteers, normally taking place at venues located awy from Kampala and that may represent up to 4 to 6 months of the annual work schedule.
Maintenance and Repairs:  Maintains vehicles in a clean and serviceable condition, performing servicing when possible and considered cost effective and notifying the GSO of any service problems or damages that require or are best address with outside servicing.  Works with local vendors for larger vehicle repairs as assigned, including obtaining quotations when assigned.  In coordinating with other Peace Corps drivers, ensure that vehicles are clean and fueled at the end of the day and ready for use at the beginning of the workday.
Recordkeeping:  Contractor will keep and coordinate amongst other activities to maintain vehicle and fuel logs that record each trip taken, odometer readings and time of departure and arrival and consumed for each trip.  When fueling the vehicle, the Contractor will document and oversee the documentation to the mileage sheets the amount, odometer reading and date obtained.  Any maintenance must be recorded.
Deliver and pick-up messages and parcels:  These include sorting daily outgoing deliveries, making deliveries to various residences, Embassy mailroom of items received in the course of daily tasks, collecting mail from the local post office.
Airport transfers:  Checking on the accuracy of expected Entebbe Airport arrivals/departures, and arranging and reviewing travel plans and itineraries of Volunteers/Trainees and staff.
Load and unload heavy items into/from vehicle, as well as help move furniture and equipment from one part of the office and residences to another.
Conduct surveys of prices of goods  and services and make small purchases as required.
May be requested to accept an advance of Peace Corps funds to pay travel allowances  to training participants or to pay for items to conduct Peace Corps business.
Other duties as assigned by the DMO and GSO.
